This five-hour driving tour of Waimea Canyon and KōkeÊ»e State Parks will stop at all of the best official and "unofficial" overlooks of vibrant Waimea Canyon and the Nā Pali Coast. Note: This is NOT a hiking tour - due to less time being allotted, we will only offer a couple of options for very short hikes, .25 - .5 miles RT each, on relatively even terrain. This will allow you to leisurely enjoy the exquisite backdrops that make visiting these areas a must for anyone looking to enjoy KauaÊ»i's natural beauty.

Our Kauaʻi hike will take us to a promontory, where we will see impressive views of Hāʻupu Mountain, Kawelikoa Point, and deep into the Kaua'i Channel in the direction of Oʻahu (which you can see at 108 miles away on extremely clear days).

The word kuilau (koo-E-lau) means "to string together leaves or grass." Plant fibers were used for everything from thatching roofs (pili grass huts) to making large sails for ocean voyaging canoes (from the hala [tree] leaf), so one might imagine that this lush trail originally got its name from native Hawaiians gathering and utilizing natural resources from the area.
