njoy riding to one of our favorite picnic spots for a trout fishing or a short hike to stretch your legs before saddling up and returning to the pack station. LUNCH PROVIDED! Fishing is for small goldens in one of the Cottonwood Creek tributaries. Riding time to the lakes is about 1½ hour giving time to fish. Bring water and layers for variable weather. Sunscreen, a hat and rain gear are recommended.

The route begins at Horseshoe and continues to South Fork Kern, then travel to our campsite Golden Trout Creek below Tunnel Meadows. Layover days allow for rides to Little Whitney Meadows, South Fork of the Kern in Templeton/Ramshaw Meadows and options to ride to Kern Peak and Big Whitney Meadows. Excellent fishing for Golden Trout. We will terminate at Horseshoe Meadows.

HORSESHOE MEADOW TO BISHOP PASS
This is the Sierra high country. You will "day hike" to the top of Mount Whitney, the highest mountain in the contiguous United States, climb over seven passes, and walk down the famous golden staircase. Travelling above tree line much of time affords you expansive views of the glacier sculpted granite peaks and canyons of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. The varied landscape rewards you with trout-filled lakes and streams, cascades and waterfalls, dense forests, and serene meadows. You will enter the wilderness from Horseshoe Meadow and follow the Pacific Crest Trail for three days to stage for the ascent of Mount Whitney from Guitar Lake. The top of Mount Whitney begins the start of a 72-mile trek along the southern third of the John Muir Trail before exiting over Bishop Pass to South Lake.

HORSE SHOE MEADOWS LOOP
This trip gives the hiker an opportunity to see some stunning views and some historical artifacts! Watch for the rustic cabins of the historical Little Whitney Cow Camp, see granite peaks surrounding meadows of green and marvel at Mt. Langley. This is a beautiful hike with many options for day trips on layover days.

SUMMIT MOUNT WHITNEY
Summit Mount Whitney with a daypack and avoid the crowds and 6,100' gain and loss in 21.4 miles of the Whitney Portal trail. This trip takes you into the Sierra backcountry from Horseshoe Meadow. You will hike along a section of the Pacific Crest Trail to the west side of Mount Whitney, where you will walk up 3,000' from our camp at Guitar Lake to the Summit. An early start lets enjoy the expansive views from the top before the crowds arrive. You'll return to Horseshoe Meadow by way of beautiful Rock Creek. The crew will furnish delicious meals with a cook to handle all the kitchen chores. Chairs are furnished to relax in camp. In case of rain, the wranglers will put up a large tarp to sit under. A sit-down toilet will be provided at each camp with a privacy tent. Mules will carry all equipment, food, and personal gear not needed for your "day hikes" along the PCT and to the top of Mount Whitney.
