Our home base is in Maine's Wildlife Management District (WMD) 17 which offers some of the best deer habitat. This area of the state is a mix of farmland and large tracts of forestland that offer some of the highest deer concentrations in Maine. If you are interested in an "any deer" permit, which allows you to shoot an antlerless deer, this is the zone you must apply for. Check the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife for seasons, license fees any-deer permits and management districts. Deer hunters are required to purchase a Maine Big Game License in advance from Maine's Dept. of IF&W.

The Rangeley Region is blessed with an abundance of flowing water perfect for Brook Trout and Landlocked Salmon. The " big three" are the Kennebago , Magalloway, and Rapid rivers. These three rivers consume most of our attention. Other waters in the area are the Rangeley, Cupsuptic, and Dead Rivers. Fly fishing on rivers starts as early as the first of April on the Magalloway River however that may be too early for a full day trip. The Rapid will start to fish as you get into the month of May. The Kennebago gets off to a slower start and isn't ready to fish till the end of May. Nymphs and streamers are the most successful methods in the spring. The fish begin their river life after ice out as they follow the spawning smelt up the mouths of the rivers. The next big feeding event is the sucker spawn beginning after the middle part of May. Hatches soon follow as the water warms. This is when the fun begins as the fishermen try to "match the hatch " through the summer months. Wading our rivers on a guided trip can be rewarding and good exercise. Our guides can match you up with the level of wading that you are comfortable with to make sure you have a safe and rewarding outdoor adventure.

The majestic moose in northern Maine offers tremendous opportunities for wildlife watchers and hunters alike. Our Moose hunt can be done with a rifle, camera, bow or muzzleloader. We hunt in the traditional methods used by Matt's great grandfather. Calling using a bull or cow call from a birch bark horn, posting on stand along a waterway or hunting by canoe are popular methods. There is nothing as exciting as hearing a 1200 pound animal returning your call and come crashing towards you through the alders, often stopping just out of sight and occasionally charging the hunter to within a few feet. Libby's has been extremely successful on these hunts, and our guides are busy locating bulls long before the first day of the hunt. We have many 'club' moose, including several MASTIC and Boone and Crockett trophies, and take several bulls with world-class racks approaching or over 60"³ wide every year . Matt and his guides work in this zone and fly over it daily throughout the summer. They know and prefer to hunt zones #5, #4 and #2, but can hunt other zones as well.
